The F. M. Kirby Foundation Summer Internship is for rising college Juniors and Seniors who are interested in exploring a career in philanthropy or nonprofit management. The Summer Internship can be tailored to the interests and skill sets of the selected intern but will involve interacting with individuals in a broad array of program areas, including health, arts, environment, human services, and education; working in a collaborative, team environment; and working on projects that involve research and require strong writing skills. At the conclusion of the Summer Internship, the intern will have gained a deeper understanding of the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors, valuable work experience, and networking opportunities.

The position requires an in-office time commitment of approximately 25 hours per week for a consecutive period of ten weeks from June to August 2024 (start and end date flexible). The in-office component of this internship provides opportunity for the intern to receive valuable experience working in an office setting and mentorship from the Foundation team. The internship may be eligible for college credit, depending on the intern’s school requirements.

Potential Responsibilities

  • Identify and research new funding opportunities in the Foundation’s broad funding areas
  • Attend site visits with the Foundation’s grantee partners
  • Proofread and edit reports, grant evaluations, and other communications
  • Perform research and data analysis for the Executive Director and other staff
  • Complete special projects and assignments tailored to the intern’s interest and skills
  • Assist in executing the communications strategy of the Foundation, including writing content for the website and LinkedIn pages

Preferred Qualifications

The well-qualified applicant will:

  2. Be responsible, punctual, and self-aware
  3. Have strong writing skills
  4. Have excellent research skills
  5. Be a flexible and curious learner
  6. Work well with others
  7. Be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  8. Be able to follow directions closely
  9. Be self-motivated
  10. Value high ethical standards and personal integrity

Candidates must have qualified for need-based financial aid in the previous school year and maintain a current GPA of 3.2 or higher. Students in any major are welcome to apply.

Compensation:
Compensation for the F. M. Kirby Foundation Internship is $23/hour. A travel stipend will also be provided.

Application deadline:
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. All applications must be received by March 1st. The successful intern will be notified by April 5th.
