The F. M. Kirby Foundation is pleased to celebrate 7 years of continuous partnership with Braver Angels, an organization dedicated to bridging the partisan divide, strengthening the democratic republic, and bringing Americans together. Braver Angels accomplishes this by positively embracing political disagreements, allowing competing perspectives to fortify the nation and foster understanding. Recognizing that no single organization can change the nation alone, Braver Angels aims to ignite and shape a Civic Renewal Movement. This movement, established in response to mass polarization across the country, addresses the erosion of trust, weakening of public discourse, promotion of isolation, and damage to personal relationships. To reverse these trends, Braver Angels brings together people from across the political spectrum through debates, community workshops, one-on-one conversations, online discussions, and town hall meetings. In 2022, over 24,000 people participated in Braver Angels programs, and in 2023, they held over 3,200 events, increasing their membership by 12,200.
Braver Angels’ events are successful because they ensure there is no majority on either side and participants enter with an open mind. This principle is foundational to the organization, which was established by leaders from both sides of the political spectrum coming together to understand one another. Braver Angels values this so highly that they have a rule ensuring both Red and Blue leaders are equally represented at every level of their leadership, maintaining their neutrality. Their goal is not to change individuals’ perspectives on issues but to change their perspectives of each other. Through honest conversations, Braver Angels is committed to fostering mutual respect and understanding between individuals on opposing sides of the political spectrum, aiming to heal and unite the divided nation.
