The F. M. Kirby Foundation is proud to celebrate 11 years of partnership with The Moving Picture Institute (MPI), a nonprofit film production company harnessing the power of storytelling to advance the principles of freedom, opportunity, and human dignity through film. By producing and supporting high-quality, mission-driven content, MPI amplifies voices that champion individual liberty, free expression, and justice. Through its filmmaker grants, training programs, and in-house productions, MPI cultivates emerging talent and equips storytellers with the resources to create impactful films that engage audiences on critical social and political issues.
MPI has produced and supported a range of impactful films that highlight pressing social issues and celebrate the principles of freedom and justice. Miss Virginia, inspired by true events, tells the powerful story of a mother’s fight for better educational opportunities for her son, shedding light on the importance of school choice. A Clean Slate, one of MPI’s recent short films, explores the challenges of reintegration faced by formerly incarcerated individuals, advocating for second chances and criminal justice reform. Through these and other projects, MPI continues to use film as a platform for meaningful storytelling and social impact. You can view their complete list of films here.
The Foundation supports MPI’s commitment to using film as a vehicle for cultural and societal change. In addition to producing original content, MPI provides hands-on mentorship through its Rising Filmmaker Program, which offers aspiring filmmakers training, funding, and industry connections to develop their skills and bring compelling stories to life.
MPI’s films have reached audiences across major streaming platforms, film festivals, and theaters, fostering meaningful discussions on issues ranging from criminal justice reform to the protection of civil liberties. By empowering filmmakers and producing thought-provoking content, MPI continues to shape the media landscape with stories that inspire and inform.
