The F. M. Kirby Foundation is proud to celebrate five years of continuous partnership with The Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) The Foundation supports ANJEC’s efforts to strengthen grassroots environmental leadership across the state. For over 50 years, ANJEC has provided essential support through education, advocacy, and training for municipal environmental commissions and environmentalists, empowering local communities to protect and sustain New Jersey’s natural resources. ANJEC’s education and advocacy tools equip communities across the state with the knowledge and tools to address critical environmental issues — from land preservation and water protection to climate resilience and sustainable development. Their staff works with 5,000 members in 300 municipalities to help volunteers become their best possible advocates for the environment and their communities.
ANJEC’s Open Space Stewardship Grant Program provides critical funding to help local environmental commissions and community groups implement projects that enhance and preserve New Jersey’s natural spaces. These grants support initiatives such as habitat restoration, pollinator gardens, trail development, and water quality monitoring, enabling municipalities to take meaningful action in protecting their local environment. By fostering hands-on stewardship and community engagement, the program not only improves open spaces, but also encourages public participation in environmental conservation efforts.
ANJEC’s impact extends beyond individual commissions, fostering collaboration among municipalities, nonprofits, and state agencies to advance environmental stewardship at a broader level. By encouraging communities with the resources to take action, ANJEC plays a vital role in ensuring a cleaner, healthier future for New Jersey.
