The F. M. Kirby Foundation is proud to celebrate 20 years of partnership with The Emily Krzyzewski Center, a Durham-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering students on their path to college and career success through comprehensive academic and leadership development programs. Founded in 2006 with the vision of helping students from underrepresented backgrounds achieve their full potential, the Center provides critical resources such as college and postsecondary access advising, academic enrichment and skill building, and career exploration and development to ensure that young people in Durham have the support they need to thrive.
The Foundation is proud to support the Emily K Center’s mission to equip students with the tools to excel in school, navigate the college admissions process, and develop leadership skills that extend beyond the classroom. Through initiatives like Pioneer Scholars, a college-readiness program for elementary and middle school students, and Scholars to College, a four-year high school program that guides students through the complexities of preparing for higher education, the Center is making a lasting impact on the next generation of leaders.
In addition to direct student support, the Emily K Center extends its reach through Game Plan: College, a free postsecondary access program that offers workshops, advising, and resources to students across the region. By addressing educational inequities and empowering students with knowledge and support, the Center continues to open doors to brighter futures.
