The F. M. Kirby Foundation is proud to celebrate its 6th continuous year of partnership with the Compass Center, located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This nonprofit strives to support the safety, wellbeing, and choice of survivors of domestic violence and others impacted by relationship abuse through crisis services, advocacy, and education.

Compass Center was born after the merger of two incredible family service organizations, the Women’s Center (founded in 1979) and the Family Violence Prevention Center of Orange County (founded in 2000). Now together as one, the Compass Center provides an array of aligned prevention, crisis, and long-term stability services under one umbrella. This action is driven by the belief that this model allows a community to more easily access services that address the interconnected nature of gender equity and economic justice.

Compass Center offers equal access of their services, regardless of gender or economic status, offering many services in Spanish as well. Services provided include a 24-hour Domestic Violence crisis line, short term shelter for survivors and their families, crisis support, court advocacy, and safety planning. In addition to immediate responses, Compass Center also organizes meaningful support groups and community education, with a focus on youth empowerment through training, presentations, and public service campaigns.

Given the incredible and meaningful work Compass Center does in the Greater Triangle Area of North Carolina, the F. M. Kirby Foundation is grateful to support its efforts to create a community in which all survivors and families have access to the resources they deserve and intimate partner violence is brought to an end.
